The Best Long Roads For Driving

There are a few reasons that people learn to drive. For some, it is a necessity. Getting to work, moving home or getting the kids to school. For others, it is about freedom and exploration. And exploration comes in many forms. It can be locally, heading to nature reserves or huge lakes. 


Or, you might be ready to finish your driving lessons, pass your driving test, and head off on some of the most beautiful roads in the world. Because of course, you can rent a car almost everywhere you go. 


So here are some of the best long roads for driving on - all over the world. 

Atlantic Road, Norway

This road is mind-blowing. The scenic route is surrounded by water a was voted the engineering feat of the century for Norway. It is the type of road that has to be seen to be believed. This 8-kilometre beauty (that's 5 miles), takes you over the ocean, and you'll drive by some stunning mountains too. 


The Atlantic Road is not only breath-taking on those blue-sky days, but when it gets rough, it's quite something else. 


To really make the most of the road, take an easy pace, and put on your favourite songs. It's worth it.

Valley of Fire Road, Nevada

If you are a gamer or a lover of fantasy films that have incredible scenery, then the Valley of Fire Road, Nevada is one for you. It is a huge 80km long, (50 miles), and takes you through the Valley of Fire State Park. 


Why is breath-taking? Due to the bright red sandstone landscape. The formations are unbelievable. 


When the sun hits the orange and red stones, they look like giant dancing flames - which is where it gets its name from. 


You won't be surprised to hear that it has been featured in a number of films. 


NOTE: It costs $10 per car to drive through the park.

North Coast 500, Scotland

We already know that Scotland is stunning. But this road, for any driver, is a must-do. The North Coast 500, is a phenomenal 830- Kilomterer loop, (516 miles). It starts and ends at Inverness Castle, in the north of Scotland. 


The road is long, winding, and decorated with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. It is made up of country roads and long stretches of between smaller villages. 


You're going to need at least 6 days to do this justice though. You are likely to need to slow down for sheep, deer and other wild animals crossing the country roads.
