Modern Cars are a minefield for the non expert.

CAN Bus wiring can catch out the unwary fitter. Controller Area Network (CAN) is a communication system whereby multiple nodes connect to and communicate over a single connection or cable called the bus. Each node is able to send and receive messages, but not simultaneously, any tampering with this system may have unforeseen consequences for the novice.

The problem is many older cars don't have CAN and some on the changeover have a hybrid version, even the newer cars have different versions. You Really need to know what you are doing with this stuff.

So if new cars are difficult to modify and if their factory audio systems are quite good anyway, why bother?
