Vehicle Tracking Edinburgh
Vehicle Tracking Scotland – Get our 5 top tips
Van, Truck and Car vehicle tracking system comes in many forms. SVR, VAM, GPS, PRS. “Tracker” like Hoover is a generic name, for gps vehicle tracking gps tracking telematics products but it is important to understand the difference. Get it wrong and you could lose your car for ever if it is stolen or if you have a fleet, you could be wasting money on the wrong system.
“SVR” Stolen Vehicle Recovery is the primary objective of Tracker UK and although they do have GPS based systems the Tracker Monitor is a radio wireless system operated by UK Police forces. This system will alert you to the fact that your car has been moved without your consent and find it for you if you confirm that it has been stolen.
“VAM” Vehicle Asset Management is what Road Angel fleet do best. This is a GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) system which allows you to see and get reports on all your vehicles on an internet /browser anywhere in the world.
Having established it is SVR you need does it have to be Tracker? You might have been told by your insurance company that you must have a tracker fitted and they may even have specified the tracker model etc. This may be because as tracker is owned by Royal Bank of Scotland there is a tie in to your insurance company (political blackmail). Depending on how strongly you feel about this your options are to argue with the insurance company and tell them you want another system (say Trafficmaster Trackstar) or simply let them force you to have a Tracker. If you were to go for the Trackstar you could benefit from extra options like the excellent and unique Smartnav system.
The UK insurance industry has been the driving force behind vehicle tracking systems motivated by self interest of course (fewer stolen cars, fewer claims) assisted by incestuous Industry bodies such as the VSIB which were supposed to accredit installers but were little more than money spinners for their directors and it is interesting to note the VSIB is no more, having offered little real value they have gone into administration after sucking all the profits out.
Even the good industry body MESF in which dedicated installers can achieve real accreditation and NVQ’s through proper training initiatives are sadly underused by an apathetic aftermarket industry. The result is for you to only go to reputable Tracker/ Trackstar approved installers in whose work you can trust. The alternative hole in the wall outfits offering certified vehicle security are not worth the paper their hockey certificates are made of.
So after that rant, (which I must stress is only my humble opinion based on 35 years experience in this business) If you have decided that is VAM products that you are interested in, the question is which one?
