Recently I was processing an order from my website for a rear seat iPad mounting kit and noticed the customer’s name was Martin Wishart and sure enough it was the owner of my favorite restaurant. Martin called me a few days later to ask about improving the sound system in one of his vehicles, a VW T5 Sportline kombi, he did not want to change the standard head-unit so we upgraded the door speakers to a pair of Rainbow CMX265 and installed an Alpine active sub box under the driver’s seat. We killed the panel resonations with the Skinz system and finally completely covered the whole rear interior of the vehicle with high quality black carpet material.

The finished job sounded good and we enjoyed doing the project. When Martin who had left the vehicle with us for a week finally arrived to pick it up he was very happy. Now occasionally happy customers leave us a little tip and to be honest all we really want is for them to recommend our work to their friends but you could have bowled me over when Martin handed me an envelope in which was a voucher for a full tasting menu dinner for two complete with wine at his Edinburgh restaurant. You can imagine the brownie points that earned me when I told my wife. We love visiting Restaurant Martin Wishart at Cameron House on Loch Lomond and last night was our special treat at this famous eatery in Edinburgh.

I have been lucky enough in my long career in the car audio industry to have traveled the world and dined in some very fine establishments however it is seldom an experience that you remember and want to share but you really must try this place if you are ever in Scotland. Every one of the nine delightful dishes was an incredible feat of imaginative culinary engineering. We asked not to see the menu, preferring the surprise so when my wife who hates Tuna was presented with a large martini glass in which was a medley of Loch Fyne Crab & Yellow Fin Tuna Tartare with Avacado, apple granite and Konbu dressing topped off by the waiter at the table with a spoonful of frozen snow, her face was a picture! Washed down with a glass of 2009 Sequillo from South Africa the dish was squeaky clean in no time and the topic of conversation with our driver on the way home was the sweet fruit flavours in this excellent dish, so much for hating Tuna…

Martin gave Edinburgh its first Michelin Star in 2001 and this has been confirmed every year since. I can only recommend Restaurant Martin Wishart and thank you Martin for a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Forecourt pause:
Forecourt pause helps you take control of your audio content and not miss a thing – even when you’re listening to digital radio – and has been designed for instances when you need to leave your vehicle and return again in a relatively short space of time, such as when you are visiting a petrol station or cash point. How does it work? When you take the keys out of your vehicle EZi-DAB will still receive power for around 15 minutes. In that period it sits in a “suspended” state (display off), meaning it is powered up but not actually playing any audio (this is best thought of as being like a low power mode: it won’t drain the battery). When you return to your vehicle and restart the ignition (within the 15 minute window), EZi-DAB will immediately switch back on and start playing again in one of the following ways:
If you were listening to an iPod track it will resume where it left off (the point when you last heard audio).
If you were listening to a digital radio station it will start to play live radio again.
You can also pause the digital radio broadcast for up to 8 minutes, so you can fill up with fuel, go and pay, get back in the car and continue listening where you left off.

Picnic mode:
Picnic mode is perfect for when you have parked in an idyllic country spot and want a bite to eat outside but within range of your vehicle and would like to have some background music. So with the ignition turned off and the keys removed, you throw open the doors and turn EZi-DAB back on and listen to whatever you want to. After an hour EZi-DAB will automatically shut down ensuring that you never drain the battery on your vehicle.
Note: both forecourt pause and picnic mode are subject to different vehicle specifications. For example some vehicles will only supply power to the main car stereo for 15 minutes with the ignition off and the keys out.
